It is just a dechlorinater, it won't actually remove any nitrates etc. from the water, just make them less toxic to fish. I use seachem's prime, but lots of people use amquel with success.

They all work about the same. Use Prime, it is more concentrated.

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....

It binds the nitrates, like yoink said. It is very fast acting and works very well when shipping fish or transporting them for bowl shows and the like. It is a good product, but I prefer other dechlors... simply because Amquel + (and Prime) both smell absolutely foul.

Actually... do you want my bottle? I don't see myself using it again. I just can't stand the smell.

EDIT: Just noticed you were from the UK. If shipping isn't ungodly, the offer still stands.

Wonder which one is cheaper. I'm running out of Prime and want to replace it with something cheaper, if possible...

Per dose I don't think anything is cheaper than prime. Like mrbelvedere said, it is concentrated. You might be able to get bulk sodium thiosulfate cheaper, but that won't work if your tap has chloramine.

I would take it, but shipping would probably cost me as much as if I bought it locally.
