KH Question PLEASE HELP!!

I have a 55 gallon tank. I just added Soilmaster Select, and presurized CO2 on Monday. I have a Milwaukee regulator with a bubble counter.

My question is. What would make my KH skyrocket? I tested it today and added 50 drops before I stopped!! I tested my tap water and got the same result I always have, 3. My ph is 6 - 6.5. I did a 20% water change, but nothing changed. What is going on? Is it the CO2, or the Soilmaster? Everything I have read, Soilmaster should have no effect on the water, right?

I also dose 5ml of Flourish once a week.

I have shut the CO2 off, just to be safe.

Please help me!!

Mike

What's the pH in the tank? Your post is rather confusing.

If you have no CO2 running the it's impossible for the kH to be that high.

I would guess that perhaps the kH in your tank is close to 0.

Sound like you are betting the farm on that $10 test kit, rather let the tank run its course and be patient enjoy the tank/plant's work on scaping etc...

Wö£fëñxXx, You were right. I ran out this morning and got a new test kit. The KH is at 4!! I didn't think my tests were that old!!

It is not only age, but you never know how the kit was treated in shipping. Extreme temps can render the reagents ineffective. Whenever the math doesn't seem right, always caution on the side of bad kits. Troubleshoot the "odd man out" in this case, running CO2 and pH that low would mathmatically be incorrect for a skyrocketing KH....so next step, check with new kit, as you did.
