Where are my nitrates?

I have a 100 gallon heavily planted tank, for which I did a fishless cycle, I added powder ammonia. Approximately one month later the cycle had been established.Plants are growing very fast. My water parameters were: Ammonia-0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20 ppm. Now my water parameters are: Ammonia-0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0 ppm. Where are my nitrates? Is it normal or not? Please tell me.

Check out rex's site, specifically the nutrient section.

If you did a fishless cycle and haven't added any fish then the plants have consumed all of the nitrates and you need to 1) add more nitrates or 2) add more fish and feed the fish lots of food.

Sorry to hear you wasted time doing a "fishless" cycle on a planted tank. Next time research first and do later.

Read my Guide. You need a lot of the information included in there.
