Hey Planted Tank Forum,
I'm new to the forum, and the world of planted tanks. My question is a simple one; what fertilizers / dosing / whatever should I be adding to my new tank in the first two weeks or month in order to achieve healthy growth and water quality?
I'll try to describe my set up as best as possible, if I forget something, please ask!
30 Gallon tank
Used tap water w/ chlorination drops
Used 2 bags Eco Complete substrate
Used black gravel to create elevation / depth in certain areas
One large piece of driftwood purchased at my local aquarium shop (I soaked this for ~ 10 days before adding it to the tank)
10 pots Baby Dwarf Tears (separated and planted in foreground)
6 pots Eleocharis montevidensis (separated and planted along back of tank)
1 Java Fern Mat (~ 6-7 3 fern bunches planted in mid-ground)
Flame Moss attached to drift wood
Different Moss attached to drift wood (not sure species, was a sub from aquariumplants.com)
Single LED light strip ~ 6 inches above tank, running ~ 12 hours per day
10 Flourish tabs in the substrate evenly distributed
2 cap fulls Flourish since original planting day (3 days ago)
I did a test strip yesterday and got the following results. Because the colors are hard to interpret, I have general ranges for some of them:
Alkalinity between 0-80
Hardness between 250-425
Nitrate between 0-20
Water temp set at 74 degrees F
Thanks in advance for the help, I'm really looking forward to maximizing this beautiful hobby!
