Need Ammonia and Nitrite Test Kit Verification Procedure

Does anyone have a procedure or process you can link me up with to verify or validate a kit is registering/reading Ammonia and Nitrite properly. I'd like to verify my test kit.

My tank has been set up for 3+ weeks now and I haven't been able to register or detect any ammonia or nitrite with my new test kit (Tetra Laborett) to see if the "cycle" if any has completed.

I did use Bio-Spiria a week after I filled and planted it, about the same time I introduced 6 Otto's and and a dozen Shrimp. I had a couple bunches of plants melt away and still haven't been able to detect any type of Ammonia cycle.

I have Nitrates (been dosing) and can measure that but zero Ammonia or Nitrites. I'm trying to determine if the Bio-Spiria really works that well in preventing a cycle or if my test kit is faulty.

I've used the Fertilator and Chucks Calculator and RO water to validate my Nitrate, P04, KH, and GH tests but can't find anything on Ammonia and Nitrite.

Thanks Don

To test you test kit you're gonna need another kit to verify results.

But your tank is probably cycled by now, b/c you added the biospira and you have some plants in there. These two things will minimize the cycle, and you are clear to add fish.

Best of Luck,

the KK

Just for your own confirmation, when I set up my 55 with lots of plants, and a medium fish load, I never saw any Ammonia, and Nitrite. I bought abrand new test kits, and still never saw a trace.

Hey thanks for the advice/info. First time setting a tank up not having an ammonia cycle, but first also for plants and bio-spiria.
