po4 5+... Well water

I have noticed some brown, dusty looking agae on the tops of my plants that concerns me. So I brought out the test kits. Nitrates are in order along with ammonia, pH and hardness. Come to find out that my po4 is threw the roof. The test reads up to 5 and the color was darker than it. So I tested the tap water "well water", and it was 4. [email protected]#! is'nt that kind of bad? I do dose po4 during my micro days. I get minimal growth with no pearling from my plants and my fish gasp during the day. Question is could that be the reason for the algae and plant problems. My guess is to just stop dosing po4 or maybe find something that will filter the po4 out of the tap water. Any comments?

That's a lot of PO4!

But how fast do your plants use the PO4?

And how fast do your fish add more?

I'd drop dosing, and track actual levels in your tank daily from one water change to the next to see what the real situation is. Then you can decide on how far you have to go to get your PO4 where you want it.

Well I tested my po4 2 days later and it is still 5. It looks like to me the plants aren't using the po4 at all. The only growth I can see is a little on the Ludwiga and a little horizontal growth on the hygro. I have probably 20 stems of each. What would cause my plants to shun the the po4? Any thoughts?

You have fish, yes? It's possible they are replacing it as fast as the plants use it.
