Is there a standard drop?

Meaning, is there, somewhere a general consensus as to the volume in a drop? I'm asking this mainly with regard to fleet enema dosing for PO4.

Thanks

The drop volume would depend on the dropper. Fleet drop is a bit on the large size as opposed to the test kit bottles for example.

The main thing to concern yourself about is the concentration of PO4 in a drop.

There have been some measurments floating about as to how many drops per ppm add by tank volume and I'll see if I can find some good referances.

Good info about concentration of PO4 in fleet enema.

Currently I add around 20 drops everyother day in my 55g. Of course this all depends on the plant uptake so keep an eye on it for a while and find a happy medium as to what you add.

I tend to keep it on the lean side at 1ppm since my light is on the low side of the high tech tank spec.

First time using Fleet for me was a PO4 OD when I just squeezed a stream out of the dropper.

Just take it slow with a set number of drops. Increase or decrease the regime to fit your target perameters and plant uptake.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about, where people come up with their recommendations on drop numbers vs. tank volume. See, like 20 drops every 2 days sounds crazy to me, but only because I've only seen reccomendations for 1-3 drops. but your drops may be tiny little drops just allowed to naturally fall from the tip, where the 1 drop guy may squeeze his bottle a little and the 3 drop guy may not squeez his quite so hard. I hope you understand what I mean. Wouldn't it be better for me to find out the PO4 per ml. and then dose in ml's?

If your purchasing the hydrated version (all I have seen locally) think of it as a mix you prepaired youself and use one of the calulators out there to determine the ammount to add...

One is Chuck Gladds Calculator (do a wab search) and the other is the Fertalator located on APC. I think the fertalator has fleet as an option to select. Chucks you'd have to set it up as a mixed batch with the peramiters mentioned in the link.

I use chucks ocasionally but usually go by the seat of my pants with how much biomass is in the tank.

Pretty much all depends on the uptake and that depends on a couple of factors. What is in the tank and what is powering the beast. If your running a low light tank and it's not consuming the PO4 of course ppm will start to rise.

Volume of biomass is somthing I wasn't considering till it was mentiond in Scollys tank post and it makes sence. Remember your feeding a group of plants that will act like glutons for ferts if the light will support their metabolisim.

I have noticed a huge fert uptake lately since my tank is getting afternoon sun for a couple of hours. Looks like a friggin champaign glass and the drop in macros shows in rapid growth in all plants.

well you can see how many drops it takes to get up to 5mls. divide the total drops by 5, then you know what the volume is in each drop.
