Effect of Sodium Silicate on available iron?

I'm trying to determine the iron content of my towns water as outlined on this page. If you don't have the time to read it all, I'll give you the skinny: we have 6 ground wells, and of the 6, 2 have negligable iron levels, but the other 4 have levels of between 0.49 ppm and 1.5 ppm. Good for the plants, I say! But, they add on the page that: "Sodium silicate is also added to keep the iron in suspension so it does not precipitate out and stain plumbing fixtures and laundry."

So, what does Sodium Silicate do to the available iron in my tank? If it is in suspension, is it still readily usable for uptake in my plants?

I'm going to bump this one as I think it might be an issue. If sodium silicate will stop iron from preciptating out, it might mean one of two things: I might be able to dose my micros+iron at the same time as my macros without the nasty iron/phosphate fallout, or, it may put iron into a form that is more difficult to to be taken up by the plants. But I'm not a chemist or a botonist.
