Cycle Question

Is it possible to do a fishless and filterless cycle? Im started a 10g and was wondering is it possible. I have some spear riccia from my 46 gallon tank that i have put in it, but i was wondering would it work?

it will work because the cycling bacteria will inhabit any surface, including tank walls.

but, WHY no filter? You're gonna have no water movement, and that's not good for the tank, plus you'll have far far less surface area to colonize with the bacteria, so even when the cycle finishes, it'll be weak. Adding a bunch of fish would surely start a mini-cycle.

The plants should be enough to provide a starter bacteria source. I assume you're planning on using the fishless cycling method where you put ammonia in the tank. You probably want something to create water movement even if it's just a little airstone. You may want to put more plants in the tank to provide more surface area for bacteria to grow on.

It's not that i was planning on doing it, i was just wondering if it was possible. I was curious so i asked.

This tank is just a test tank, i got it from a friend that wasn't using it. So im going to use it to experiment with.

Malkore I ended up putting in the HOB filter that came with it, as well as my old hagen co2 system. I also rigged up a shop light so im pumping out about 6.5 wpg's, just on one side the other side is 2.5(until i buy some endcaps and a ballast).

I do not know much when it comes to the science part of tanks, but i do know how to ask question's. Thanks for the reply guys
