Which osmocote??? Plus or non-Plus??

My local Lowes didn't have the Plus and instead I bought a 3lb bottle Scott's Osmocote 14-14-14. I have a 40g tank with 36" x 15" bottom area. I put them in a size 00 gel cap. I placed about total of 8 capsules and about 10" apart. Anyway, has anyone used the non-plus osmocote? The difference between the Plus and non Plus is the presence of trace elements. And some forms of ammonia as well???

I use the non plus and it works fine for me :-) I dont know if the plus would have made my glosso carpet quicker but its green and took 8 weeks to spread the entire 10 gallon so im happy :-)

I use regular osmocote (non-plus) in my emersed setups with no problem. I use the Indoor and Outdoor type 19-6-12.

Thanks. I have been reading up on the message board. It appears that both are fine. Since the Plus has trace elements, in theory, it is better???

Yes. But if you can dose micros through the water column, it shouldn't be a problem if you use the regular kind.

OK. Yes, I dose the water column also with EI and dry ferts.

Either will work. In fact, I used the Miracle Grow Shake (10-10-10) and Feed in gel caps before and my crypts did well.

I also couldn't find the Osmocote Plus anywhere local. I called Scotts, and they did a search of all the business around my zip code that order from them to see if anyone had ordered that SKU in the last 3 months, and no one had. Since i wanted to try the Plus, I ordered it online. The 4.5 lb jug will last me the rest of my life.

Also, don't worry about buying a large quantity. Scotts told me that the poly coated ferts never go bad. Just keep them dry and they are good forever.

I think ACE Hardware is the only place that sells Osmocote Plus other than Amazon or eBay.

I just checked Ace Hardware site and they don't have the Plus. And it is $30 shipped from Amazon for a 4.5lb bottle. And I just paid $12 for the non-plus, 3lb bottle.

Strange. I saw it in store a few months back. Though they are probably not restocking it anymore.

IMO most dose EI anyway, why spend twice as much if your all ready dosing micros... I am getting ready to buy a bottle myself and don't see any logical reason for getting the plus.
