new to N.P.T have a few questions

started a new tank and am wondering if i did allright
i used 1/3 topsoil 1/3 natural clay and 1/3 sand in a 1'' layer caped off with samd should this work well?

Hello, and welcome to the site. Could you give us a bit more details of your tank? What kind of Topsoil are you using, did you mineralize it, what kind of clay, etc....?



I'm just curious, and also what part of Colorado are you in?

it was some local organic top soil brand the clay was a natural cat litter ''special kitty'' i soaked the dirt then dryed 4 times then mixed in clay and sand then added to tank its a 55 gallon with 1 t5 2700k coral life bulb

I would recommend swapping out the 2700k bulb for a 6500k - 6700k bulb because it's closer to natural sunlight. 2700k is way to low of spectrum to be of any help for aquatic plants, the 6500k-6700k is best for aquatic plants.

As for the topsoil, it sounds like you did a good job at washing it, and then using special kitty all natural litter is another good choice for clay. Everything sounds good so far except for the lighting.
