Target range for nitrate with inverts?

After losing shrimp from massively overdosing KNO3, thanks to faulty test strips, I'm trying to tailor the dosage to the individual tanks.

Tank 1 - high light, high tech, dosed EI style but trying to go leaner. This one has eco-complete, so levels may fluctuate. Want to keep Neos, Babaulti, amanos, and nerites, maybe Sunkist.

Tank 2 - Excel dosed planted Neo tank, currently dosing half EI once or twice per week. Would like to add a few tigers and nerites.

What should my minimum NO3 level be just before the next dose? I've read that algae problems can start before the NO3 hits zero. Do plants show deficiencies from levels above zero?

What's the maximum level? I realize this may force a change in Tank 2's dosing schedule.

I dose 45 ppm a week, but the plants use up at least 1/2 of that.
