So, is adding iron....????

Recently, maybe a more than a month ago, I started to add additional iron into my EI dosing. About 2 to 3ml of iron daily. I also changed my bulbs too since they were close to 1 year old. Now, with the new bulbs, Zoo Med ultra and flora suns, in my eyes, the light looks less red. The old bulb combination seemed to have more red.

Now, my chainword narrow leafs aren't turning yellow after a very prolific growth. In the past, the runners tended to yellowing after spurring out couple of long and big leaves. My ludwigia reopen stopped yellowing on the older, lower leaves now too. In the past, before adding additional iron, the lower leaves would die very quickly. The lower stem would also melt as well. And my temple leaf plant, which is notorious for suffering from K deficiency, is now not anymore. In the past, I felt that my plants weren't sustainable. I would see new leaves growing but old leaves tend to die very quickly. Is adding additional iron the cure of my problems? Or maybe because I have replaced my bulbs? I read that old bulbs tend to have too much red color in it and it would only help the stem to grow but not the leaves. While light with lesser red but with more blue tends to help the leaves to grow better? And more blue can reach further down to the substrate than bulbs with too much red?

If my old bulbs were the reason, then, I have to slap myself silly since it took me a year to find it out. Hehehe...

Probably your bulb. 2-3ppm of iron is a lot. It's a micro-nutrient and you're probably wasting 2.5ppm daily of iron since the plant can't use that much. Or there might be the bigger issue of low CO2.

I'm not sure about all of that color shift bulb explanation. I just see a lost in intensity.

Ooops, typo. I meant 2 to 3 ml of iron... You know, the old bulbs came with the light fixture and I assumed they were good for plants. One is 5000k and the other is 10,000k. I later changed the 10,000k to a Zoo Med Ultra Sun 6700k.

Well, it could be iron then but always check out the obvious first like light & CO2.

I think it's just a combo of both. Light intensity was better for the lower growth not to die out. With adding extra iron, you can now rule that out as a limiting factor, assuming npk, traces, and co2 are all in good levels.

Not sure how much ppm of iron you are dosing but I dose 0.5 ppm everyday with no ill affects. I use csm+b, millers, fe gluc, and 11% fe.
