Can I use Iron pills as root tabs?

I made some mineralized top soil for substrate, capped with sand but didn't add some clay into it (my fault for being impatient) LOL...the tank is already full and set up. ...any ideas on how to get iron into the sub for heavy root feeders? or would small water column dosings worrk? ...iron pills from the grocery maybe?

I did mix some chelated iron into the substrate [dont know if that was a good idea since its so soluable]. the water seems stained just a bit yellowish/brown ..dont know if its from the iron. We'll see what happens lol. I used 3 table spoons of it.

the tank is 55gal, with low lighting, no co2 ..wanted something simple.

Ive popped a few tabs(65mg spring valley) in the substrate before. They cloud the water, be quick.

Do they work? Maybe, i cant tell

Do they kill anything? Not in my tanks, shrimp, snails and fish were all okay

I have used JBL Kugeln Balls. It's big clay balls with 6.9% Fe2O3. Fe2O3 is water-insoluble so the iron stays in the balls until plants use it. It also look like these balls take up ferts from the water column, making the ferts usable by root feeding plants.

or you could just freeze some clay and then push it into the substrate.

Please ignore any spelling/grammatical errors. I'm swedish and sometimes I'm also drunk.
