I dose the following regimen for my 52g tank:
1/2 tsp Potassium Nitrate (3x week)
1/8 tsp Potassium Phosphate (3x week)
1/8 tsp Potassium Sulfate (3x week)
1/8 tsp Millers Microplex (3x week)
I dose the micros on the days between the macros. Typically I'll pre-dissolve each of the macro ferts independently before adding them to the tank (i.e. one scoop of Potassium phosphate dissolved and added, then one scoop of potassium sulfate dissolved and added, etc.).
I am going on vacation for a week and would like to make things easier for the person taking care of my tanks - is there any reason I can't mix each days worth of dry ferts together, so they can be added in one shot? I know not to mix the micro with the macros, but what about mixing just the macros together into one container before dissolving?
I'd add 1/2 tsp of K2SO4, 1/8 tsp of KNO3, and 1/8 tsp of KH2PO4 into a cup for that day's ration, and have one cup for each day needing dosing. I'm trying to avoid having the caretaker (aka "my mom"
) need to measure anything to prevent as many potential issues as possible.
I was thinking about using one of those 7-day pill organizers - just pop the top on the appropriate day, mix it in a cup of tank water, and dump it in.
