Question Low GH/KH

I finally got a test kit (I am getting ready to set up a DIY CO2 on one of my tanks) for GH and KH. Both are extremely low (I can't remember the exact #'s, but it was as low as the kit would read). Can anyone recommend a good product for raising these before I start with the CO2? I purchased a chemical called Tank Hard because it was all my LFS carried, but I am re-thinking my decision. Sould I be adding something like RO Right or Equillibrium? I should be concerned with raising these right?

Thanks,
Tina

Hi Tina,

I'm in the same boat as you so you might want to check out the thread I started a few days ago:

see the response I gave in the other thread too.

In addition, RO RIght and Equilibrium target the Mg and Ca of the tank which really just affect the GH of the tank (no to little affect on KH). You should be trying to get this up to 5-8 dGH though anyway to ensure your plants have enough Mg/Ca. If you already purchased a product, just get a 5g bucket and begin experimenting to see how much of the stuff raises GH. Also test if it affects KH at the same time. I am unfamiliar with the product you just purchased so cant say that it does not affect KH or have a buffering agent to it.

I think all you need is baking soda (for Kh) and epsom salts (for Gh)
