Greg Watson dosing questions?

Alright I finnally broke down and ordered some dry fertzs from GW's. I need to know how to dose. I have read that EI is the way to go. What the heck is EI.
I know it stands for estimated index, but my estimates will probably be way off. I have a 75 gal tank with medium plant load and a med/high fish load. This is what I bought: PotassiumPhosphate, PotassiumSulfate, Potassium Nitrate, and Plantex CSM+B Plus Extra Iron. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Leamons terms please I am a dumb @&&.

hey there-
EI implies that you are estimating that your tank needs potassium or nitrate or something...not that you are estimating how much the tank needs.
visit the fertilator or a different site for the amounts your tank may need.
if you search for Estimative Index in the search function, you'll get a message saying that there are too many threads focused on that topic, so try Estimative Index Confusion or Barr Confusion or some other arrangement of the words "estimative" "index" "question" "tom barr" and "confusion". this will give you lots and lots of threads with a great deal of useful information.
you may also want to check out the barr report or this page:
http://aquaria.net/articles/plants/barr-dose/
there are a lot of pros and a lot of cons for EI and the decision to follow it needs to be made by you in regards to your experience, your dedication and your attention to detail!
good luck and keep asking questions!

30 gallon tall, pressurized CO2...killer lights
50 gallon long, killer filtration, low tech otherwise

After reading Tom's article on EI, you can use Chuck's calculator to determine how much you need to dose (After testing of course) to reach your target levels of nutrients.
http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_p...osage_calc.htm

If you plan to dry dose, set the amount of water to use to 1mL, and that'll tell you how much it'll increase the tank if you were to add the fert directly to the tank ( or premixed in water then added to the tank...versus making a dosing solution)

I prefer to download Chuck's calculator, as it has an option for dry dosing and stock solution.
