O2 with an airstone or bubble bar?

I had read before not to use bubble bars or airstones in a planted tank, but I just read the dosing sticky, and it said to add O2 on a daily basis for high planted T5HO tanks with CO2.

My question is this: When adding CO2, should I also have an airstone or bubble bar/wand going as well? should that bubble bar only be running while the CO2 is going, less, or all the time?

These are the quotes from the sticky in this forum that I am referring to:

"For higher light, Co2 enriched tank's that are moderately
to heavy planted.

Add o2 to your tank daily, by either air stone or surface
agitation."

Its more about surface agitation than the o2 bubbles. What kind of filter do you have and how much surface agitation do you already have? I use a penguin power head on a spray bar for surface movement that's it, no o2. My DC is always bluish in the am after the co2's been off all night. The reason you only want a ripple and not surface "splashing" so to speak is because that will off gas much of the co2 you inject into the water. Take a look at some top view pics of heavily planted tanks you should be able to get an idea if the surface "ripple" im talking about!

I have a Fluval 405 Canister Filter. I am in the process of procuring all of the parts for a pressurized CO2 system with a Cerges reactor in the output of the 405. The surface movement depends on how deep I place the output in the tank.

I was considering buying either a powerhead or something similar for flow and agitation.

Pressurized co2 is the way to go! I use a Rex Grigg style reactor 14" long 2" pvc and it works awesome! Cost me 14.50 for parts :icon_mrgr! The Cerges reactor is extremely efficient from what i hear! If you can dedicate a power head to surface movement you would probably be all set not using any o2. I've literally removed the o2 system entirely from the tank since I started using a power head to give the surface a ripple. You want to have enough ripple to keep the top clear of any film. The reflections the ripples make is an added bonus I think too.. Also if your nervous, watch your fish.If they seem to be at the surface at night then yeah, maybe you do need some added o2! Once the lights shut off plants can start giving off CO2 and i think that's why supplemented o2 in a densely planted tank is suggested. With enough surface movement though I think you'll be fine without adding o2! Good luck! Hope we helped!:D
