~-~-phosphates-~-~

When I put tank together seven months ago, I believe 7 or 8 outta 10 bags of Eco-Complete had the milky liquid. I didn't like the looks but didn't realize it was dangerous.
Just read crshadow's caution about this milky liquid and I became very afraid .

I just got my first Phosphate tesk kit; also AquaPharm.
My Phosphate showed 5.0 from tank and 2.0 directly outta the tap without water sitting, just out of the tap.

I have been dry dosing ľtsp. Phosphate every other day for months.

What should tank Phosphate reading be?
I should know this but...

Should I stop adding Phosphates to tank?

Can high Phosphates add to algae problems?

Thank you.

nailed to the shameful tree.
How vast the love that Him inclined,
to bleed and die for thee.~

Generally your phosphate should be a 10:1 ratio based on your nitrates. If you have 10 ppm of nitrates you want around 1 ppm of phosphates.

I would stop adding phosphates. Unless you have a huge high light tank you are adding a LOT of phosphates.

Phosphates alone really don't cause algae. But the nutrients being out of balance can.

5ppm is not a disaster. I would stop dosing phosphate for now. After a few weeks, right before a water change, measure PO4. This gives you an idea if the PO4 from tap water is enough for the whole week. If the level is real low(like <=0.5ppm), consider a mid week boost with PO4 dosing. Otherwise, you can happily ignore PO4, one less thing to worry about.
