Green Water- keep fertilizing? and Diatom/UV Questions

I woke up the day before yesterday to a hazy tank.

I really can't afford any equipment (diatom filters, UV, etc) at all right now. I did my weekly 50% water change yesterday but my question is whether I should keep dosing fertilizer?

The CO2 had fallen to ~20ppm for a couple days, so I upped it back up to 30ppm, reduced the photoperiod to 10 hours, and today I'll clean the filter out. Anything else I can do without buying equipment?

Everything was going so great, too.

Ever since I started with 30ppm CO2 and EI dosing, all the other algae died off. Even my notorious hair algae growing on the driftwood has started to die off. Now it's green water. Yuck.

Honostly, though, I don't mind so much if it's green water and not BGA again.

I second this question!

When i recently had GW i stopped dosing altogether, luckily my lfs rents diatoms so after a week of no progress that's the route i took.

I just went through the same thing as well. Your green water will most likely get worse and not better. Mine took a few weeks to look like pea soup but it made it there.
The cheapest most effecient way (most effecient is obviously UV or Diatom) is the blackout. Worked wonders for me
You can maintain your dosing and weekly water changes and hope that it goes away. I have actually read a post where one day the green water dissappeared, im guessing he just got really lucky. Good luck

Well, the visit to the vet with my cat cost a lot less than expected, so if a diatom or UV system is not too expensive, I can probably afford to get one.

Where is a good place to get one and do I have to run it all the time now or just until the green water clears up?

Thanks~

Edit: What wattage UVS would I need? Is a 9watt Jebo good enough? It's the cheapest system I can find, running at $35.

I'm thinking that this one would work okay for getting rid of my green water?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...379374132&rd=1

It comes with a free powerhead...

EDIT: Transferred my questions to the Equipment forum

I can let you know if that one works in a couple of days - I just set it up on my tank yesterday. I think I can see a difference already. I'll let you know in a couple of days, with any luck I'll be able to post before and after pics.
