PO4 - In experience, how much per week to dose?

After months of just assuming that my PO4 was at 4.0 and nothing I can do to control it, was proved wrong tonight and it is down to practically none (<.5). Since I have high NO3 (20-30ppm), I figure I need to maintain my PO4 at 2.0 or so.

I made a stock solution that raises the PO4 by .2 per ml.

I just raised the tank up to ~2.0ppm, but unsure how much to dose in my normal 3x per week dosings of macros (along with K and NO3).

I still plan on testing the PO4 continuously until I get it right, but in most other tanks what is the normal plant usage per week? I.e. should I expect it to drop back to .5ppm by next Tuesday, or will it slowly decrease over a long period of time.

And I do know that it is tank specific on the usage, so I am really just looking for a big-picture expectation to judge by.

Some quick facts: 40g's, 5wpg, 30ppm co2, ~25ppm NO3, 11 hour light cycle.

Judging the uptake of po4 can be tricky...from my experience it depends on the plants and how much co2. If and when you test on tuesday and don't find the po4 dropping, I would say leave it alone...then test on Wed...if you see a drop, dose on Thursday. Try that for a couple weeks and if its consistent, there's your dosing pattern.

I add 1ppm twice a week, though I often don't dose the rest of the ferts, usually adding only phosphate will get bubbles going again.

I add 2ppm 3x per week. I don't know the level in tank and don't care, all I know is there is no green spot agae and no need to wipe tank glass.

1 to 4 ppm works per week.
A rather wide range and you can dose it a number of ways, I'd dose at least 2x a week, with smaller total dosings say the 1ppm a week, you will do better to do more frequently.

There is no absolute amount on dosing really....thewre is a fair amount of play.
This makes advice seen at odds sometimes, but this is really a good thing since it allows more flexibilty is our dosing routines and reduces the amount of rigid control needed.

Your tank setup is pretty similar to mine. I've a ton of hungry plants, and dosing 2ppm after weekly waterchange, then 1.5ppm every other day works for me.

Last week I had to dose .6ppm to keep it up at 2ppm total. Since I already dose Macros 3x per week I plan on doing .2ppm 3x per week and will continue to testkit it for the next few weeks to ensure I am on track. I havent noticed my plants doing any better since I began dosing PO4 though. Hopefully I will notice a difference one day soon.
