Help? problem with testing kit

Hi ,

I have just set up my new tank and bought a "Hagen" KH/GH testing kit.So the GH level of the water is 340 , which is very hard. Whereas the KH level is 30mg , and the ph is 6.8. Since the water is quite hard , I was just wondering wheter it is suitable for planting aquatic plants n keeping neons. And another thing , as I saw a web site showing CO2 chart with the KH level in degrees, but my tested result is 30 mg according to the manual in the kit. Hence , does any one know what is the meaning of 30 mg in the sense of degrees?

Thank you!

Cheers.

30mg/l is the same as 30ppm of Kh.
you can use this site to determing CO2 levels based off degrees or ppm of Kh
http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_co2chart.htm

To convert ppm or mg/l to degrees, divide by 17.9. You're just under 2 degrees of Kh.

you need at least 3 degrees, or 54mg/L of Kh before its safe to inject CO2. You basically have a lot of magnesium and calcium in the water, but no carbonate hardness.
