Help me with EI, please.

My tank is 500 liters, 132 us gallons, 200x50x50 centimetres, but there will be only about 300 liters, 79 gallons, of water. 3x70W metal halides with Philips Mastercolour lamps, enough CO2 added, sand as the substrate and layer of red clay underneath with bottom fertilisers, lots of plants, also the demanding ones, no fish, just some Crystal Red shrimps and apple snails, so bio load is medium or low.

Tapwater:
pH 7.9
conductivity <20 mS/m
carbonate hardness 1.4 dKH
total hardness 3.8dGH
Ca 2.5dGH
Mg 1.3dGH
NO3 0,3-1 mg/l
NO2 <0.003 mg/l
Ammonium 0.01 mg/l
Fe 0.03 mg/l
Mn 0.02 mg/l

I need to raise total hardness to about 8 and keep the pH around 7 - 7.5. Temperature will be 24 celcius.

This is what I have:
Tropica MasterGrow, Seachem Flourish + Trace

Hortigrow Mikro (B 0.33, Cu 0.05, Fe 2.0, Mn 1.14, Mo 0.025, Zn 0.3 g/100 ml), chelated iron (8 g/100ml), chelated manganese (7.8 g/100ml), magnesium sulfate (Mg 9.7%, S 13.0%), potassium sulfate (purity min. 99%), potassium nitrate (purity 98%), gypsum (CaSO4), baking soda. Do you need to know more specific things about those? I don't have anything containing P. Hortigrow Mikro, iron, manganese and magnesium sulfate are from here, http://www.kemira-growhow.com/English/ , but there's no information about them in english :/

So, how do I start dosing?

And I would really, really appreciate help. I don't know if anyone here in Finland uses the EI yet, so I would like to be succesfull with this one so I can recommend it to others too

Hey Rain,

Quick question, Can you get KNO3 and KH2PO4? If so, EI is basically adding 1/4 KNO3 & 1/8 KH2PO4 per 20 gallons 4x's a week. Off days of adding micro.

if you log on to www.barrreport.com, I think it's one of the free info.

good luck,
T

ok, you already have most of the needed ingredients, except a source for PO4. Can your get KH2PO4, or Enema from drugstore?

All you'll look for is a source of KNO3 and KH2PO4, see a Hydroponics on line store in Finland.

Get about 1 kg of KNO3, and 500grams of KH2PO4.
This will last about 1-2 years.

www.gregwatson.com will send overseas if you cannot find it there.
There are some folks in Sweden that sell it I know, not sure about Finland.

Regards,
Tom Barr

Thanks

OK, so, KNO3 is potassium nitrate so I already have that. I will ask about that KH2PO4 today.

Are my other things similar to what you all are using or do they need more calculating for appropriate doses? I don't have much of Seachem Flourish Trace, so I need to use Hortigrow Mikro and manganese+iron.

And about the KH and GH. I know when raising the total hardness I need to add magnesium and calcium in 1:4 ratio, and I know how much to add baking soda to get the pH to stay at 7-7.5.

Few people use Flourish Trace for trace, some even call it "expensive tap water". Many use regular Flourish as main trace source, works fine. It also contains a little macros, but mainly used for iron/trace.
