Water changes-changing

Hi All,
I have decided to do the weekly water change routine. Originally my dosing and water change method was:
Sunday 60% WC and 1/4 tsp KNO3, 1/8 tsp KH2PHO4, 1 1/2 tsp of K2SO4

Monday add csm+b(plus extra iron) 1tbs and 1 tsp into 250ml and 15ml into the tank
Tuesday 60% WC and 1/4 tsp KNO3, 1/8 tsp KH2PHO4, 1 1/2 tsp of K2SO4
Wednesday add csm+b(plus extra iron) 1tbs and 1 tsp into 250ml and 15ml into the tank
Thursday 60% WC and 1/4 tsp KNO3, 1/8 tsp KH2PHO4, 1 1/2 tsp of K2SO4
Friday add csm+b(plus extra iron) 1tbs and 1 tsp into 250ml and 15ml into the tank
Saturday-rest day

I want to do less water changes, and wanted to know since my bio-load is pretty big if I could not dose nitrate? So how does this sound.....
Sunday 60% WC add 1/4 tsp of K2SO4, 1/8 of KH2PHO4
Monday add csm+b(plus extra iron) 1tbs and 1 tsp into 250ml and 15ml into the tank
Tuesday add 1/4 tsp of K2SO4, 1/8 of KH2PHO4
Wednesday add csm+b(plus extra iron) 1tbs and 1 tsp into 250ml and 15ml into the tank
Thursday add 1/4 tsp of K2SO4, 1/8 of KH2PHO4
Friday add csm+b(plus extra iron) 1tbs and 1 tsp into 250ml and 15ml into the tank
Saturday REST DAY
I am not sure how fast my tank eats up the phosphate because I have always did water changes according to my "old way", but if these stay at 2 like how it is right now will dosing this be nessesary either. I plan on tast the nitrates and phosphates to get a feel for this new schedual. Feel free to put in advise!
Pete

Depending on how much you feed, you might be ok. Let NO3 be your guide. If NO3 gets really high before each water change, you might want to do 2x weekly wc. I am slacking off to weekly wc too, NO3 gets quite high(>30ppm) but fish don't seem to get stressed yet. I might do 2x weekly.

When I went to my current dosing regimen (similar to your revised schedule), I did as Shalu suggested and monitored my levels. My NO3 was sky high after the first two rotations, so I now only add KNO3 at my 50% weekend water change. After a 50% water change, I measure my NO3 (typically close to 10), dose up to 20 ppm, and then feed my fish (slightly over 1 fish per gallon). As to PO4, I've found in my tank that if I add 3ppm (based on the solution I've mixed up) every other day, it measures close to 1.0 after the 50% water change, so it should be staying fairly stable around 2.0 throughout the week.

Pete, I just noticed your trace dose might be a little high, not that it is big problem right away. I would do 5ml each dose initially, only increase gradually if not enough. Stopping at a point where plants no longer show improvement.

Sounds good, so instead of 15ml, dose 5ml on trace days?

yes, start from there, and increase a little if not enough.

Pete and Shalu,
On my 75 w/ 7discus(4 in), I dose 1 tsp Kno3 and 1 tsp k2so4 every other day and Im running only 2.3wpg. Growth is good not great but no algae except for persistent BGA. i use Excel to supplement DIY co2. I am doing a 50% water change every 3 days. When I check my nitrates they have never been>20ppm. any reccomendations or dont fix it if it aint broke?

Dean, you probably don't feed too much then. yeah, don't fix it if not broken. but I have doubts about your NO3 level.

Yeah that seams like alot of nitrate to add to a medium light tank, I only add .25t kno3 twice a week to my med. light 150, you dont need 20ppm nitrate esp in a medium light discus tank
just my 2 cents.

Shalu,
I have been trying to monitor a little better(less testing and more plant watching). As far as feeding, they get at least 2 meals a day and they are hand fed until they quit eating or have full bellies.
Lately I have noticed a little more spookiness in their behavior, which may be stress that may be attributed to the higher nitrate level. But they never pass up a meal.
I will trim it back a little and watch.
I started on the 1 tsp doeage per Gladds site.
