Fertz vs. TDS levles

Hello,
I didnít know whether to put this thread in here or in the shrimp section. I need some advice from some experienced members. I have OEBT and Blue Bee Shrimp. I due a regular dosing schedule of the following during the week:

Excel
Iron
Phosphorus
Potassium
Nitrogen
Flourish

I have shrimp in two of my three tanks. I am having a difficult time keeping the TDS level low. My TDS is around 450 ppm. I also have the Fluval Shrimp mineral additive that came with my EBI.

Does dosing raise the TDS level over time?
Do I need to add the mineral additive for the shrimp while dosing the tank?

I do the normÖ top of with straight R/O water during the week and a water change on Sunday with R/O water w/ mineral additive. Am I doing something wrong? The TDS level never seems to drop. I have some babies in the tank, but nowhere near the amount would I have due to the massive amount of eggs on the shrimp. Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks
Don

How large a water change are you doing weekly?

From my experience, dosing flourish excel + leaf zone doesn't raise the TDS of my tap water very much. It comes out at ~150TDS, after I dose the correct amounts the water is at ~155 before I'm adding that into my 10 gallon tanks.

I found my TDS slowly crept higher and higher when I only siphoned off water during the WC's. Is that what you're doing? When my TDS reached ~400 I finally decided to stick the vac into my moss and suck up the shrimp poop that was there. TONS and TONS of crap came out and my TDS immediately dropped to 200. While you'll suck up SOME babies, I believe it's more beneficial to everything else in the tank if you vac the moss or congested areas in your tank at least twice a month. But this is just from my experience!

Fish Shrimp tanks are like cups of coffee, one is never enough.

Maybe larger water changes would help, too. Try doing a 50% water change.

you can have a very high TDS while having a low KH and GH, which are more important than the TDS. Ferts are salts and they will bump up the TDS even if you dose tiny bit. i never kept any sensitive shrimps, so i don't know anything about them.
