water conditioner question

I have used Amquel, Prime, API, Tetra, Microbe Lift and other water conditioners to treat my tap water in the past, and all of them appear to to their intended job. My question is this: Is one of these products better than the others? If one is better, why is it?

I even have duckweed in my water bong!

As long as a conditioner removes chlorine, chloramine, and ammonia, it's fine. Personally, I prefer that it does nothing else.

For example, I question whether my fish really need an ingredient that "enhances slime coat". But I know that if I ever need to use Purigen, it will coat that too; rendering it useless.

And Amquel Plus eliminates nitrates. My plants want those nitrates!

Those two I know about. No telling what other unintended side effects optional ingredients might have. Better to keep it simple and single-purpose.

Several will fit that bill, but since acquiring some Purigen for emergency use, I now use only Prime; since I know for certain it's compatible.

I like Prime because the dosage required is very small, making a bottle of the stuff last a long time. The one I used before, and I don't remember which it was, required much larger dosages.

Still and all find it hard to believe the claims of what appears to be a wonder product.
"AmQuel Plus - how it works, compared to regular AmQuel
the complexes in the AmQuel Plus products, including Pond AmQuel Plus do the following: They detoxify any chloramines, chlorines, and nitrogen compounds present in the water. They split apart the chloramines (composed of chlorine and ammonia), detoxify the chlorines in seconds and the ammonia within five minutes. They break the toxic nitrogen compounds in the water apart, gassing out their oxygen and hydrogen components out of the water into the air, and preventing the nitrogen compounds from recombining in toxic form. These compounds include all the ammonia/ammonium, nitrites, nitrates, pheromones, and all other toxic organic compounds for which there are no common names -- yet are important to detoxify to be harmless to fishes and other aquatic life."

+1 for Prime for this very reason even though it smells like rotten eggs.
