SUPER Frustrated Please HELP !!!

Ok here the deal I went and bought a brand new rubber maid 20 gallon bin I then added 5 gallons of r/o distilled water (tested the distilled water and it is tds=0 gh=0 kh=0 and ph=6.5) then I added 1 teaspoon of Kent Right R/O to the water and added a submersible pump to mix the water around let it run for 20 minutes or so and tested it and came up with these numbers ph=7.4 gh=4 kh0-1 and tds 336 (wtf) why or what made the TDS sky rocket like that? And I am guessing the ph went up so high because the TDS went up? I need some help any advice would be nice at this point.

So I thought it was the pump I was useing to mix the water it was once in a saltwater tank in the sump so I poured the water out washed the bin out paper towel dried it then added 1 gallon of distilled r/o water, checked the tds it was 0 added the 2nd checked it again it was still 0 added the 3rd and 4th and checked again it was still 0 TDS poured half of the last gallon in and then added 1 teaspoon of Kent R/O Right to that half of a gallon and shoke it for 3 minutes then poured some in clean new plastic cup checked it it was TDS 191 so I figured if I added it to the 4 1/2 gallons of distilled water reading TDS 0 it would go down well it didnt it shot up to TDS 333. WTF am I doing wrong shouldnt it have dropped instead of going up like that?

Answering your post first by telling you I don't use RO Right. Did a LONG time ago and don't any more. What are you trying hit for water parameters?

A TDS of 333ppm seems high to me but I use GLA booster for GH and baking soda setting my KH values. Recorded values in my log vary some but that's normal on partial water changes.
GH, KH, TDS
3.0 2.0 155
4.0 2.0 195
5.0 2.0 191

Something was off to begin with the water should have tested neutral at a pH of 7, and it could be your testing equipment needs to be calibrated too.

Lol, I had a similar reaction the first time I reconstituted ro.

Here are a couple reasons why your tds is so high:

1. Ca ions form very strong electrolytes and therefore greatly increase the conductivity of the water.

2. If the Mg source is MgSO4, you're also adding a lot of sulphur ions.

3. Cheap tds meters don't give very accurate readings in situations like these.

The pH was probably only temporarily high because the pump oxygenated the water- the more dissolved oxygen, the higher the pH.

Basically, don't freak out. Just add the reconstituted ro to your tank and I'm sure everything will be fine.
