I've not used any of the sugar based fertilizers.
There are reviews on line - full of opinions on both sides.

Can it work? Yes, but so can a lot of other options.

Here is another product. Notice the ingredients and claims.

There is one named Sugar Daddy sold in hydroponics shops.

seachem acid buffer works on the same principle. it breaks down bicarbonates. it will reduce ph by breaking the carbonate bond. c02 is release. however after serveral doses. ph crashes because there are NO bicarbonates left in the water. and no c02
its happened to me before back when i didnt have a planted tank and didnt know what was going on

you will have to dose some sort of bicarbonate to keep that cycle going or continuous water changes. HOWEVER.. if you do water changes on a daily basis. u are increasing c02 as the water you are pouring in has c02 in it. does it dissipate? yes wil lthe c02 dissipate from the product u are looking at? yes

ALSO if it has sugar in it. that speeds up the metabolism of bacteria. you will see an increase in c02 and a rapid decrease in oxygen. do it too much and your filter bacteria will eat itself out of house.

stick with excel, api c02 booster or some sort of gas injection. IMO.. this seems like a disaster waiting to happen
