Math wiz help me create Fe solution....

I ran out of Flourish Fe so I bought some Watson Fe to replace it.

I need to make a stock solution:

I have:

250mL bottle with water
Watson Fe which is 10% Fe

I need to produce:

A 1% Fe solution in said bottle

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Robert

Almost. 20*10%/220 = 0.909%

25ml of 10% solution, add water to make a total volume of 250ml = 1%. (you mentioned the 250 ml, so that is what I used - Stu's example would be 20ml to a total volume of 200ml).

But the Fe is 10% in a dry powder form. I don't feel like word problems this early in the morning. I've got some too and wonder how to mix and dose it.

For a powder that is 10% Fe, use 25g of the powder (equivalent to 2.5g Fe) and add water to a total of 250ml solution (2.5g/250ml = 1% Fe since water is about 1g/ml)

If you don't have a scale, you need to find the grams/tsp or grams/Tbs for the powder - I don't have this. Maybe someone with the powder and a scale can help - or is it somewhere on the web site?

I found this site while poking around. I'm not sure if it has the density of iron or a conversion to tablespoons, but it probably does!

Good luck.

It would hard to make an exact conversion of any substance from teaspoons to grams due to variables in density, i.e. a teaspoon of lead obviously is going to weigh more than a teaspoon of flour.

However, for the dry chemicals I use, the general rule of thumb is 1 teaspoon equals approximately 5 grams, I would think that's close enough for your purposes.
