Lowering pH and kH relationship

My pH is 8.0-8.2 and kH of 4.. The moss in my tank is doing ok but no where near thriving and the only answer I can think of is my pH is too high.. Everything else I have troubleshooted except for this.. So, I'm using peat pellets in order to leach some acidity into the tank. Now I do know that it lowers my kH as well.. A kH of 4 is good IMO and I would not want it to get much lower, should I be adding baking soda to top-off water to raise kH a bit? Or will this just further buffer the pH and I'll be shooting myself in the foot so to speak? Since I don't use co2 and have a lot of tetras/mosses I would like to keep a neutral to slightly acidic conditions and this seems the only way.. Any suggestions?

Peat won't lower it enough to think about touching it with baking soda. YOu'd be wasting your time and it'd be a wash.

I'm guessing something other than the pH is the problem, as I grow several mosses in PH of close to 9 and kh of like 2134234234123

Do you use a diamond saw to cut the water?
