ppm conversion to degrees...confused

On my test strips, Total hardness and Alkalinity are shown in ppm. How do I interpret these as degrees?

Divide by 17.86

Given the inaccuracy of test strips, just divide by 2, then by 10 - you can easily do that in your head.
