if i were useing PMDD...

is it really as simple as on the site? if i order a tub of premix csm+b, a tub of magnesium sulphate, potassium sulphate and potasium nitrate.. all i need to do is mix them 1tsp csm+b, 1tsp magnesium and 1tsp potassium into half a litre of water? and i have my mix right? then i can leave the nitrate to dose according to fish waste, and everything else that contributes?

if its this simple im gonna get me some right away, do i use deionized water or distilled or anything to help store it? and do i dose 1tbs of the final liquid mix per week to see how the tank feels on it?

You can do as you chose of course, but even greg himself does not recommend PMDD for larger tank's.
It's ok for smaller 5gal maybe 10gal tank's, if you need to dose a certain ingredient because of an abundance of another, then PMDD does not allow you to do this!
Dosing individual fert's allow's for better control over what one is dosing.

If you're really lazy, like me, I'm trying to get a used tablet making machine. With this set up, all I have to do is drop a tablet in to the filter and let it dissolved. Instant +1ppm of any of the PNK for a 65 gallons of water (Boy, that's lazy and pretty easy ... I mean efficient and organized ).

WfxXx thats a good point and i did wonder about that, i wasent aware of the recomendations on the tank sizes. so should i go for the csm+b and the others or shall i mix the boron myself aswell?
can you break down what i should really be seperating incase of deficiency..
i think i should keep iron, nitrate, potassium and magnesium seperate, and just use the csm+b pre mix. does this sound good to you?

at the moment im paying 4.99 100ml of trace (FloraBoost of which doesent give any specifics other that 'contains trace elements'.
9.98 for 473ml Fe 0.10% and K2O 3.00% Leafzone

i really need to get the ferts into action becase with these of the shelf ones are no good there keeping my tank sustained and without co2 at the moment its not to bad, but i fear once i get a co2 reactor made up the plants will start to become defiecient.

and thomE thats a good idea lol.. but if you mean a medical tablet press i rekon thats gonna be a pretty big investment for the hobby

Don't forget that PMDD doesn't add any PO4, which you're very likely to need with your lighting level.

CSM+B is a good choice, no need to mix Boron that is what the +B is in CSM

Over all this is what you want for a plant tank, Mg & Ca is not totally necessary in all case's, But have seen case's where it was needed even with a gh and kh above 3.

Plantex CSM+B 1lb. Price: $8.59
KN03 Potassium Nitrate 1lb. Price: $2.17
KH2P04 Mono Potassium Phosphate 1lb. Price: $3.42
K2S04 Potassium Sulfate 1lb. Price: $2.17
Iron Chelate Price: $8.59
Magnesium Sulfate 1 lb. Price: $0.85

Compulsion, maybe you have this or something similar. If not, here is a link to Chuck Gadd's calculator which is immensely helpful to determine individual dosing. HTH, bob http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/articles.htm

10:1 nitrate to phosphate ratio seem to be the balance needed. That, of course, assumes no more than 10 mg/l of nitrate.

Nice article by Tom Barr in a recent Aquatic Gardeners Association periodical mentions the importance of phosphate to good plant growth.

I use 1Tbsp to 250ml H20 and 1 ml would add 1 ml to 20 g
I am not a chemist, and don't want to be, just watch the plant's and the tank..
Just remember, "we are not building piano's but growing weed's under water" so things are a bit flexible...

start with 1/2 ml in a 20 unless you have a ton of light and plenty C02 and N P K
In other word's make sure the plant's basic need's are addressed!!!!

Thanks

Craig

I wish it were that simple
Chances are growing plants isn't the problem, it's the growing of unwanted algae that frustrates hobbyists
