Glutaraldehyde in Excel?

Does anyone have a verifiable source stating the % of Glut in Excel? I keep hearing 1.5% but cannot find any verifiable source that confirms this.

yes... I've found the MSDS but it doesn't give the concentrations of Glut... at least that I've seen. Did I miss it?

Hi firefiend,

A couple of years ago I was looking for the same information. It took me several months to track down the information and I finally found it on an Indian (ie India) website. Check out the post dated Wed Apr 12, 2006 9:09 pm.

I have mixed my Glut to 1.5% concentration for the last two years and it works the same as Seachem Excel. If you need a good calculator for mixing your own solutions just let me know.

Thanks OverStocked and Seattle Aquarist... yes they are the same link, haha, it's all good.

I got my bottle of metricide yesterday and wanted to verify the info before I diluted it. The bottle I have is 2.5% Glut so I'm going to do a 60/40 solution.

However, does the excel dosing assuming water volume or tank volume? If it assumes water volume than I might be better off at 50/50. Without doing the math I'd estimate that this will still be a slightly conservative dose but not horribly so.

Hi firefiend,

I always dose based upon water volume.

The download-able Glut calculator is an .xls file located here.

Buy a test kit and measure it

There's your verification.

If I still worked in a lab I would have no problem doing so; but since I don't I'll just hope that the spirit of community, and sharing of information will provide the answer that I need.

And in turn I will provide information that I've gathered through the investment of time and money to those that might need it but don't have the means to gather it themselves.

Try the link now, the spreadsheet download should "pop up".
