KNO3 agricultural grade vs food & drug garde

I'm planning on buying some KNO3 from a friend that owns a lab. He has 2 grades of KNO3:

KNO3 Golden Bell agricultural grade
KNO3 U.S.P. grade used for food & drugs

He said that both have the same molecular structure except that the U.S.P. grade is very ''pure''. The only problem is that the U.S.P. grade is almost twice as expansive.

Would the agricultural grade be safe to use in the aquarium? Does anyone know what KNO3 grade theyre using for their ferts? Does it even matter?

TIA

We don't plant to eat the stuff ... so I would go with the AG Product.

Best wishes,
Wes

Years ago some clown tried to argue in favor of lab grade...but virtually everyone has used Ag grade(you eat the end products they produce that have been grown with this) for the last 15 years or so.

No issues of any sort.

There is a great reason to use the lab grade stuff! It makes you part with the green in your wallet faster!

You'll never notice anything else. Side by side you can see a difference in powder, as there are some impurities, but they do not matter, at all.

Use the Ag grade. It is just fine for aquariums.

ironically, the AG product is for stuff we DO eat.

and use caution with Rex. For instance, he hasn't been on his forum in 7 months....

We actually do consume KNO3.. It's used to preserve meats like hot dogs, and is used on corned beef. The salt peter gives the meat that pinkish red color.

Get the food grade if you plan to cook with it

I can't eat too much of it. It'll trigger my migraine.

The reason I don't eat those things! -- The unnecessary addition of stuff that we don't need in our bodies.
