5 in 1 test strips

I've been using the API 5in1 strips for a little while now, are they reliable/accurate enough to go by? I get the sense their accuracy is just a ball park look at the params.

They're generally very inaccurate. I don't bother testing anymore except for ammonia when cycling, so I don't even use any of my (too many) test kits.

If you wanted more accuracy, go with the API liquid tests. However, you have to decide what you want to use them for. If, for example, you only want to test for ammonia every once in awhile, and the strip will give you a decent idea if there's any measurable amount, then it's fine.

hmmm my last post/reply didnt go through? here we go.....Thanks kevmo, that confirmed my thoughts exactly I've been using the strips to test for any measurable amount, then doing liquid testing after if need be. Still trying to grasp everything though

I used the Mardel 5 in 1 strips and checked them against my wet kits with good results, ph,kh,gh,nitrate, nitrite, but I never tried to calibrate any of my test kits but did find this brand as accurate as the wet kits. I'm sure they are not perfect as in dead on but I found them consistant. My main use for these strips were kH & gH in checking tap and tank water but I also found them useful for nitrates & nitrites. I certainly agree with Kevmo911 in I don't rely on kits or test much but on occaision they come in handy.

BTW I had tried other brands and did not like them, but never tried API.
