Fert question

I just started mixing and adding fertilizers. I mixed up Greenlight Stump & Vine Killer with water according to Chuck's site and got a red Koolaid looking liquid. Dosed it and growth was remarkable.

I just now got some Muriate of Potash for Potassium. After mixing it it looks rather thick. Kind of like orange tomato soup. Is this what its suppose to look like? It was pretty messy and it stains things rather easily.

I'm not sure you have the correct Greenlight Stump killer. That sounds exactly like the stuff my parents gave me, which was NOT potassium nitrate...but something else completely different. Pure potassium nitrate should mix up clear.

No idea on the muriate of potash...I simply purchase K2SO4 from a place like gregwatson.com

Greenlight shouldn't be red, are you sure?

I got it at walmart its called "Greenlight Cut Vine & Stump Killer" Also the muriate of potash is from a garden store and it mixes(5tablespoons + 500mL) to a thick orange color. Maybe Ill give up the everyday products and go for specialized greg watson.

There's no problem using muriate of potash. It's potassium chloride, KCl.

Do you know the ingredients of your stump and vine killer? If you say it works fine and it hasn't harm, you could be on to something.

Ok maybe I was wrong in that I got stump killer rather than remover. I did get Greenlight though. It doesnt say what the ingredients are on the bottle. I only used about 10mL of a mixed solution of 5tablespoons + 500mL of water.

Also I started to use florapride similar to flourish at the same time so the results could have been that also. The muriate of potash stained the bottles that I am using. I think I will stop using both products and buy some aquarium specific ferts like from gregwatson.

This shows why I NEVER use product names. And why I NEVER recommend using things like stump remover/killer. Besides the fact that those products, if they are KNO3 are much more expensive than buying KNO3 from Greg.*

Stump and Vine killer is different than Stump Remover. I doubt your tank is going to be in good shape for long. See this http://www.pesticideinfo.org/Detail_...DIST_NR=000869 for more information.

The Muriate of Potash you purchased should NOT have given you an orange solution.
