Ammonia spike from algae kill off?

I had been dealing with a bad case of green water for about a month and ended up buying a UV sterilizer last weekend and ran it all week to clear up the algae. Tank is nice and clear now but after checking the water params I see that I have a high amount of ammonia in the tank around (1.5-2). Could this be caused by all the algae that was killed off by the UV sterilizer?

Tank has been running for a about 3 1/2 months. I did loose a couple fish while the water was green but Im not sure exactly when. Havent found and bodies so I assume its been a while.

This is what it looked like last week:

and this is what it looks like now:

NH3/4 is known to trigger green water. You might have had ammonia floating around before the UV. I'm thinking your tank was never cycled properly.

I don't think it was the cycle, I made sure that the ammonia and nitrites leveled off first before adding any fish. The tank ran just fine for close to 2 months before the green water hit. No ammonia or nitrites during that time.

A few days before the green water came, I moved the tank to a different spot and didnt realize it was getting hit with sunlight early in the morning. So thats what I thought had caused the green water, but don't know for sure.
