Purigen and canister filters

Hey Guys and Girls

I've been boiling my wood I got for a few days now on and off with soaking in water to rid it of tannins. But I'm still getting a very small amount in the water tub I'm soaking it in.

I'm running a fluval 305 on my 40 breeder and am wondering were the best place to put it in? All 6 compartments are full of those white bio rings. Should I buy enough to fill 2 of them for better coverage?

Any input on purigen and removing tannins would be great.

You just need to buy a 100ml bag for a 40g tank. Put the bag at the very top off the filter.just push it in it will fit. 125ml does about 250l sorry I'm an aussie so I only know ml and liter

Might want to put the bag on top of a sponge to catch particulates. The pores of the bag are pretty small and will clog faster than the purigen exhausts if you only use bio media.

I have 3 trays in my canister, and i put my purigen in the middle tray sandwiched between 2 floss pads. Your wood will leach some but the purigen will capture most of it.

Thanks guys for getting back so quick. Good call on the floss pads, never would have thought of that. My tank is getting an overhaul on Saturday. I'm switching from a rockscape to a woodscape, but I'm still getting tannins out of it. Mostly when I boil it but not as much when it just soaks in water.
