Exclamation drop checker show yellow!- diy co2

my dropchecker is showing yellow. BUT IM RUNNING DIY CO2! i have been using the same solution ( 2C sugar 1tsp yeast, the rest water) for a while with no problems before. i did clean my diffuser yesterday. and positioned it so most of the co2 bubbles get sucked into the filter. for good disbursement. but now my drop checker is yellow! i put it in 2 different locations and the color is the same. the fish arent showing stress. i have one betta and an oto. the tank is a 10 gallon. i have a baffle on the filter, so the betta doesnt get blown away, but that reduces surface agitation. when i noticed the DC was yellow, i removed the baffle and turned the filter on high. there is now plenty of surface agitation, and has been for hours. but the DC is still yellow.

do i need to worry about this? what should i do to decrease the co2? i really dont want to gas my fish!

here is a pic

My drop checker looks like that all the time.
Until it's literally solid yellow. I don't have to worry about the fish. I learned this the hard way

So, the takeaway is: there is lots of color variation and some DC's will be yellower than others. Watch the tank for plant and fish reactions to different levels of CO2, you may learn that you need to run more in the yellow, like me.

My DC's look a bit yellower than yours all the time.

the picture, im now realizing, shows it greener than it actualy is. the solution in my drop checker is never solid colored, guess i didnt put enough drops in. i got some pearling as soon as the light came on though. nothing seems wrong except the color though. so ill put the baffle back on and see what happens. thanks

Despite what the d/c suggests, a single 2L bottle of DIY CO2 won't kill any fish. Unless you see signs of stress in the betta, don't worry about it.

Your using the 4kh solution with ph reagent right? (Just though I would ask the obvious)

I run both my tanks a bit high on co2 too. I make sure I have ample surface agitation to make sure that the o2 levels stay high, so I can run co2 levels higher as well.

If you want it less yellow, get a bigger tank

My 40gal is green at 1bps DIY w/chopstick diffuser, but I hope that things will get more yellow after I start using a reactor.

Lucky you. Mine barely gets to a medium green before the fish become stressed.

I don't normally disagree, but I can actually speak from experience that this is not true. I've killed CPDs with a single 2 liter of diy co2. It is easier to do than you realize.

Bob, just keep an eye on your fish. If you notice them acting really lazy, or lying still, gasping for air, then you have an issue. But if they are acting normal, you are fine.

What are you using for the drop checker liquid wise? Are you using plain tapwater or a known dkh solution?

Without Algae, death of mankind would be inevitable.

Agreed. I had 5 neons "jump ship" with DIY co2. The ones that couldn't make it out of the tank ended up dieing also, in the tank. This is in a smaller tank. 29g
