Reverse osmosis water

So right now I am using tap water treated with aqueon water conditioner and I am getting pretty tired of having to monitor the water and everything. So because I have an amazon tank with cardinal tetras in it and blue rams in the future, they don't need a high mineral content in the water, I figured reverse osmosis water would work and make the tank less stressful for me. This would seem to work wouldn't it? The plants should be fine with excel and flourish, and the amanos should be fine right? I have ghost and nerites in it too, so I'm not sure how they would do. Thoughts? I would just add in the RO water 25/75 in a water change, then 50/50, then 75/25, and then just change the water with RO water only. I will add in prime to the RO water when doing changes as well. This all sounds good right?

Just a word of caution, I recently got an RO unit and was slowly switching my tanks over to 50%tap/50%RO and it killed all of my nerite and assassin snails . Im not sure how the shrimp would fare, but I would go very slow just to be safe. I also would not go up to water changes with 100% RO water, RO water by itself is somewhat "caustic" as it likes to leach minerals from the surrounding which will be no good for your tank and its inhabitants.
