A KH story that may be of some value to others.
I recently ran out of CO2 in my 65G tank and did not have a chance to get any for several days, so I opened up my old Carbo plus unit, thinking that something is better than nothing.
Well, as expected the Carbo did very little, if any to help.
When I got my CO2 tank filled and hooked up again, after 48 hrs I took my water measurements and found
PH 6.8 (where it normally is for a CO2 rate of 1B/Sec)
KH 2 (!!)
I was a bit taken back by the numbers, but realized that Carbo plus "chews up" KH during its operation. Please note that no water change had taken place.
I started adding baking soda to raise the KH back to 5 ~ 6 where it typically is, but I was impressed how much damage the Carbo unit did.
