Limescale

I've recently noticed some white substance around the rim of my tank after the water evaporates, and also where the spray bar hits the glass. Is this limescale? And if so, how do I have limescale if my water is soft (gH = 7). Could it be the fertilizer I'm dosing (light EI)?

Wipe/scrape some off and put it in vinegar. If it bubbles, it is lime scale. If not, itís just salts from the evaporated water (e.g., sodium, potassium, chloride, sulfate). I consider water with GH 7 to be moderately hard, not soft, so Iím betting on lime scale.

Yeah, you're right. It is moderately hard. I was mistaken. Maybe I should be shooting for a lower gH.

It's the residue from the magic the tank gives off to convince you that you need ANOTHER tank!
