High tech dry ferts

Hey guys, I'm looking to start EI dosing and would like to know what each of you dose and what product you recommend. Looking to buy a kit

At least I can grow Algae

NilocG packs made it easy for me to learn. I use EI based NPK + CSM+B + GH Booster with Fe

I would recommend this.
https://www.nilocg.com/shop/ei-based-npk-csmb/
It is a good start and one's self can modify if high NO3 becomes an issue due to phish loads.
A small scale would be of great help too!

Many here would surely help with dosing recommendations too!

Growing is not that difficult.

I saw them as well and was considering them. I also saw and was tempted by them having jars, as well as a dosing/holding container for premade solutions

Thoughts?

Already ordered a scale 🙂 does this kit come with everything needed? I'm looking for a complete kit or at least a general idea of what I need

I wouldn’t go that route myself. The little jar containers do seem nice. As the bags can get annoying. I had a bunch of glass jars at home that I used to alleviate this.

That pack is a PPS kit I’m not sure if there’s any difference as I’ve never looked into PPS

I got some of those dosing bottles separately. Some really like them, I ended up going a different route.

Also $12 more expensive. Unless GLA has a break for shipping

This is kit you want for EI.

https://greenleafaquariums.com/produ...kage-bags.html

Many people dry dose with EI, so the bottles are kept as separate add on. Price really comes out same once you add the 2 bottle on. PPS kit is meant to be liquid dosing so comes with the bottles.

Correct me if I am wrong but this kit, pps, is meant to be mixed w water and the powder In a container and then put into the aquarium?

What is the opposite of pps dosing? Do people dose dry ferts straight into the aquarium?

I'm on the geeky side, so I work at it more than most. I make my own stock solutions of calcium nitrate, potassium phosphate, potassium sulfate, and Nilocg CSM+B. Also calcium chloride and magnesium sulfate, but I rarely bother to dose these. At the moment, I'm experimenting with changing out 25% of my water daily and dosing the change water to my target levels. I can post recipes for my stock solutions if you want to go that route.

Yes, people dose dry amounts.

But main point was donít order that kit w/bottles, follow directions that come with it and think your doing EI dosing, completely different system. But there is nothing I know of that would prevent you from mixing it up to EI specs.

This is all quite confusing for me. What's the difference between pps and EI dosing? What do you personally dose?

I have yet to decide what route I'm going but I'd certainly be interested in hearing how you do it

PPS and PPS-pro are based on daily dosing of much leaner amounts of nutrients. EI is based on dosing much larger amounts on alternating days. EI doses macros (NPK) and micros (CSM+B) on separate days, so your EI dosing would be something like macros on M-W-F, micros T-Th-Sat, 50% water change Sunday.

Since you're new, I'd highly recommend you start with the EI method. With PPS, if you run too lean and don't know what a deficiency looks like yet, you're going to have problems. EI, in theory, provides adequate or excess amounts of everything your plants need throughout the week, but requires the weekly large water change to "reset" the water column. You'll very likely still have accumulation, meaning your NO3, for example, will gradually increase over the weeks, so occasional testing to make sure your numbers aren't getting out of whack is a good idea. If you need to cut something back, you just dose less or skip the dose altogether.

I've purchased from both NilocG and GLA. I, too, like the jars, so my initial purchase is for the jars, then I just refill from bags as I need to since the jars add a little cost.

EI dosing it is, how much does a pound of each usually last?

I've bought a similar kit in 2017 and still got about half left on most. So probably will last me a good 4+ years. Do I follow EI every time....no too lazy!

I vote for the jars also from GLA. I love them. I have a small scale and measure out my doses to the gram, then mix in a cup of tank water then dump in tank. Although I just ordered the bottles because I think It would be easier for me, at least for micros.

You just squeeze the bottle and it fills up in a separate chamber the exact amount you need then dump right into tank.

Sweet, that's exactly how I was planning to do it. What's nutrients do you use?

For Macros, I use K and P regularly but only use N every now and then because my tanks always tend to have Nitrates. Then twice a week I does Plantex CSM+B at a dose way less than EI calls for.

I also add FE, I believe it's a 10% DTPA. Just ordered some 11% DTPA from GLA. I dose that .1g 2-3x a week. Only other thing I dose is Mg occasionally, which I just buy from a local store (Epsom Salt)
