Water Changes and Parameters

Good Morning

I have a question or four...

I usually do once a week water changes. I cycled a new tank and began to do water changes with it, I was having PH Issues in another tank and decided to test all of my tanks. So I do my normal changes on the other tanks while working on my other tanks. I tested the tank that I was referring to and it's ammonia is 0 nitrites 0 Nitrates somewhere around 20.

The tank has 6 least kilifish, one platy fry, and 2 guppies in it, 2 baby mystery snails, and some MTS. It is a 20 long, heavily planted with a sponge filter for a 75 gallon on it. So I said, I was going to test in a week and see what's up instead of doing a water change. I do the test Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 5.

Everything seems fine, and the plants seem to be absorbing the nitrates as following tests show the nitrates hanging out between 5-20 ppm.

The question is when to do a water change because this tank is so lightly stocked. My other tanks I still do weekly and they are not as heavily planted as this one?

Do weekly water changes anyway. Evaporation (and topping off with tap water) will cause your TDS and other parameters to slowly creep up, regardless of your stocking density.
