Dosing muriatic acid to lower KH
In another thread discussing EI's difficulties in high KH water, two options were discussed for reducing KH: using RO water or adding muriatic acid. The logistics of using RO water in my planned 120g with 40g sump are impractical, leaving me with the muriatic option. If I dose enough acid to drop my 6.7 dKH water to around 4 dKH, how low will my pH drop from its current 7.6? I'm already expecting temporary drops of ~1 when the CO2's on, so I'm concerned for the inverts, especially the snails.
When doing water changes, would adding one drop of muriatic acid to a quart size jar of tank water three times directly to the tank damage the fish, inverts, plants, or hardware?
Any danger of shock if this is spread out through the WC via the hose from the tap method?
Getting back to the hobby and up to speed.
