Simple question about dosing

I recently saw a video from Dave from ADU aquascaping, he was talking about many different fertilizers ReGen /ReKHarb thrive thrive +, pps pro etc etc, he stated in the video you only dose your ferts for the amount of water you're adding back into your tank after a water change, I dose KNO3, KH2P04 K2S04 for macros and csm+B and DTPA 11% for micros, I dose for full 45 gallons (total water volume), should I be dosing half of that after I do my 50% water change?

The pevalent practice is to dose for the entire water volume. The premise is that the plants use up some / most of the fertilizers between your doses / water changes.

You can make the process more precise but more cumbersome by measuring how much of what nutrient your use up (uptake) and adjust your fertilization to keep the nutrients levels constant. Will this more precise approach yelled any measurable improvements is open for debate.

I see, I added more fish so my plants are actually taking off pretty well, I do 2 doses each week at 5/1/5 npk but im dosing for total water volume, but in his video he says you should only dose for the water you replace which was confusing

I've switched my macros and secondaries to dosing my incoming new water, but micros are still being dosed into full water volume.

It really shouldn't matter.

20ppm NO3 in your 50% water change water will = 10ppm added into tank volume. Just different ways of expressing doses.
