High phosphorous usage normal?

I'm dosing EI and have been testing parameters twice a day while trying to dial it in for my tank. The goal is 10-20ppm nitrate and 1.0 phosphorus.

My nitrate drains pretty damn slow. Sitting at 20ppm it could take 5 days to get to around 0.

However, my phosphorous is a different story. I can fill it to 2.0 mid day or night, and then come back and test in the morning and it's already at .5!

Is this normal? Do certain plants use more phosphorous than other?

Aquasoil sucks in a ton of PO4 during the first few months. My latest tank it would take 10 ppm down to zero in less than a week. That went on for a couple of months then it got to be less.

If your testing is accurate, then its probably the aquasoil. Plants arent using 2 ppm overnight. Its going somewhere.

The other possibility is using Fe with a weak chelate realative to your PH level. If the Fe losses its chelate it'll quickly bind with PO4 creating FePO4, which is neither available to plants or would show up on a test

Ah very interesting. Why does aqua soil suck of phosphorus? Is there anything else I should know about the aquasoil?

Also, I dose csm+b between days of nitrate and phosphorus, but I actually hadn't dosed csm+b last week and the phosphorus still dropped.

Ive seen it explained why it does that but cant really explain it myself. Its due to something besides CEC though. After a few months it starts to "fill up" and pulls in less and less.
