Noob seeks help with ferts etc
I'll start out with "I've never successfully run a planted tank". I want to try again. I've been out of the hobby for six years but I had about 15 years of experience with mostly fish only freshwater stuff prior. African cichlids, etc.
I want to buy a 15 Gallon fluval flex and totally carpet it with java moss and maybe 1 or 2 small anubias. I do not want to run Co2.
I have questions:
1) Do I need substrate? I don't see why I would. I was just going to use stones and wood on the bottom and cover them with java moss and anubias
2) How and what do I feed these two species of plant? Should I use traces? (which) ferts? (which) Fluorish excel?
3)How do I prevent algae?
4)How many hrs of light per day?
5)Temperature? (The room fluctuates 69F to 75F depending on time of year)
Also, is my planned stock ok? I was going to get a bunch of cherry shrimp, a couple of Amano shrimp, and I was going to get a single BN pleco. Also possibly some tiny tetras or something for the water column.
What else should I be doing/ what else should I know?
