Dosing Ca & Mg with Rotala Butterfly
I have been testing and dosing Ca and Mg using the Rotala Butterfly. I am dosing RODI water for large water changes to my freshwater planted aquarium. My problem is when using the nutrient calculator do I only calculate for the Calcium ppm and ignore the Sulfur ppm's?
I am using CaSo4.2 and MgSo4.7. There seems to be considerable difference when calculating for total ppm for each or just the Ca and Mg ppm? I am planning to dose 2 degree GH or 35.72 ppm of Calcium and 8.93 ppm or 0.5 degree of GH of Magnesium. It appears the ppm's of the Ca or Mg plus the Sulfur gives the total degree of GH but the actual ppm of Ca or Mg is considerably lower than the ammount of total ppm with the sulfate. I have also tried using Zorfox's planted tank calculator as well.
