NEw to planted tanks

I have always had 1 plant in my tank, grew very large. Also always had an air pump running. How long should I keep running an air pump? Also using pressurized Co2 injection.

If you are injecting CO2, there is really no need to have an air pump (unless you wish to have it on at night).

Agitating the water (surface) will result in faster CO2 loss from the water, which defeats the purpose of injecting it in the first place

So the only source of oxygen my fish would have is from the 3 small plants I have and freshly planted Java moss. Doesn't seem like enough. If my plants were 10 to 12 inches tall, then yeah. Not that I disagree with you, just looking for some science behind shutting air pump off all together.

Increase surface agitation from the filter, that should be more than enough gas exchange. Run CO2 only through the day. You can run the air pump on a timer to run during the night to offgas CO2 and replenish O2.
